The PAL-V flying car will be added to the SkyAngels Air Ambulance emergency fleet

SkyAngels Air Ambulance is a UK-based provider of emergency medical transport services. It announces a partnership with PAL-V, the world’s first flying car. This is to support their emergency care needs.

This charity recognizes the need for fast and reliable transportation solutions. This was necessary to quickly get doctors to hospitals across the country. With the PAL-V Liberty you can Sky Angel ensuring that their rapid response team arrives quickly and safely. This is thanks to the unique possibilities of using roads and air.

Dutch made

PAL-V International is a Dutch company founded in 2007 by CEO Robert Dingemans and major shareholder John Bakker. The idea for the vehicle came from Bakker. It arises from frustration about the fact that planes always have to take off from a fixed location. The pilot must leave his car at the airport. Therefore Bakker decided to design a car that can fly, so that users can reach any location with their own vehicle. This idea was eventually developed into the PAL-V Liberty.

PAL-V Liberty

The PAL-V Liberty is a vehicle that combines the characteristics of a car and an airplane. Users can decide for themselves which mode they want to use the vehicle in. Switching between driving and flying modes takes about five to ten minutes. To be allowed to fly on the PAL-V Liberty, users need a pilot’s license.

Gyrocopter

The PAL-V Liberty’s design was inspired by the gyrocopter, an airplane with a rotor without a motor. The design is also inspired by the Carver One. It’s a three-wheeler from the Dutch company Carver leaning around the corner. This system makes it possible to compensate for the gyrocopter’s high center of gravity and ensures the vehicle can drive safely on public roads.

Properties in air

In the air, the vehicle’s maximum speed increases to 180 km/h. Although PAL-V showed that flying cars move most efficiently through the air at 140 km/h. The maximum range in the air is 500 kilometers. It assumes a 30 minute fuel reserve and the presence of one passenger. If the vehicle is fully loaded and fuel reserves are maintained for 30 minutes, the maximum range drops to 400 kilometers. According to PAL-V, this means in practice the PAL-V Liberty can fly for about 4.3 hours before the vehicle needs to be refueled.

Air Ambulance Service

The PAL-V Liberty will operate as one of SkyAngel’s rapid response vehicles, providing paramedics and advanced physicians with the unique ability to get to the scene more quickly and efficiently. This partnership is the first of a potentially larger order for the UK, with SkyAngels investing in future relief efforts with the PAL-V flying car.

Fast transfers

The PAL-V Liberty can be used for short flights over natural obstacles, such as the Isle of Wright or the Isle of Man. But it can also be used as a quick transfer across the country, regardless of major highways and traffic jams.

Unique use case

Robert Dingemanse, CEO of PAL-V: “SkyAngels’ reservation shows their confidence in our product. We look forward to further developing this partnership to enhance relief efforts. The SkyAngels Air Ambulance has a unique use case for the Liberty. This also helps us to further develop the corporate and government markets. It’s not just a disaster relief vehicle. It is also a tool that can be used for coastal surveillance, border patrol, police and many other applications.”
