The rider, team and organization expressed condolences to his team Bahrain Victorious and his relatives via social media.

Resuscitation
Mäder crashed hard alongside Magnus Sheffield during the queen stage on the Albula Pass descent. Mäder had to be resuscitated. The Tour de France organization posted a similar message. “It is with deep sadness that we learn of Gino’s passing. Our sincere condolences to Gino’s family, teammates and relatives.”

The Astana Qazaqstan cycling team also reacted in surprise. “We are praying for Gino along with the entire platoon, waiting for good news this morning. We are truly devastated by what happened,” the team wrote. “Our sport is both beautiful and cruel,” wrote AG2R-Citroën.
“Bad news to read and difficult to accept,” reported cyclist Edward Theuns. “A talented young rider, but more importantly, a young man who will have a great life ahead of him. My condolences to Gino’s family, friends and teammates.”
