Taylor Swift’s concert at the Estádio da Luz had a significant economic impact on the weekend of May 24 and 26, especially on the hospitality sector and tourism activity in the Lisbon district, which increased by 22% compared to the previous weekend. Americans, Irish, British, French and Spanish spent the most time in the Lisbon area during the study period.
The data comes from Reduniq Insights, a report from Reduniqpresented as the largest national acceptance network for national and foreign cards and brands Unique. According to the analysis, foreign card transactions (+49%) and turnover (+34%) increased in Lisbon on the North American singer’s debut day, May 24, compared to the previous Friday.
The cities of Lisbon, Oeiras, Cascais and Loures recorded increases in the number of foreign transactions of 52%, 44%, 42% and 39% respectively. In terms of foreign turnover, the same cities recorded growth of 38%, 28%, 12% and 10% respectively.
Analyzing the two concert days, Reduniq concluded that foreign ticket sales in Lisbon, Oeiras, Cascais, Sintra and Loures increased by 14%, 14%, 11%, 10% and 5% respectively compared to the previous weekend. In the case of Lisbon in particular, visitors from the United States (11%), Ireland, the United Kingdom, France and Spain had a greater weight in the total revenue recorded.
“Of these, almost all saw sales increase compared to the previous weekend, except for France. The US grew by 56%, Ireland by 30%, the UK by 15%, and Spain by 78%,” the report said.
The period between 24 and 26 May showed a 22% increase in turnover in the hotel sector and tourism activity in the Lisbon district as a whole compared to the previous weekend. Here too, foreigners had the largest weight (24%).
In the municipality of Lisbon, where the concert took place, the most economically stimulated activities were perfumery and pharmaceuticals with increases of 61% and 54% respectively. The hotel and tourism sector grew by 29%, while the catering sector increased by 23%.
