British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will attend the UN climate conference in Egypt next week. Sunak previously decided to skip the COP27 conference to focus on ‘urgent’ domestic issues. After receiving a lot of criticism, the Prime Minister has now decided to resign.
The opposition and climate organizations reacted angrily to Sunak’s decision not to attend the summit in Egypt. It was later announced that the plan was being reconsidered. The Prime Minister said on Twitter that he would attend COP27 because action was needed against climate change and ‘there is no energy security without investment in sustainable energy sources’.

Sunak became Britain’s third Prime Minister in a year last week. Her predecessor, Liz Truss, had to resign after weeks of criticism of her economic policies. One of the pressing domestic issues that Sunak wants to focus on is drawing up a new economic plan with Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt. It must be submitted by November 17.
Johnson to COP26
On Tuesday it was announced that former Prime Minister Boris Johnson would attend the climate summit. The previous climate summit, COP26, was held under his chairmanship last year in Glasgow, Scotland. “I was invited by the Egyptians,” he told Sky News. ‘I want to talk about the way I look at things and the way we look at things in the UK.’ Johnson believes that countries must make more ambitious climate plans.
