Bethesda has released a patch for Starfield on Xbox and PC. Additionally, the company has revealed what players can expect in the future – such as DLSS support for the PC version.
The patch has been available for download since yesterday and fixes several bugs and improves performance. Full details are at this blog post for reading.
In the article, Bethesda also revealed what improvements will be added to the game via future updates. For example, it mentions DLSS support for the PC version, a technique from Nvidia that uses AI to get better graphics and resolution without reducing performance. Currently, the game officially only supports FSR 2.0, a similar technology from AMD, although a mod is available for DLSS support.
Another future addition is a field of view slider, which will allow people to adjust the field of view in the game. This is still missing from the game, to the dissatisfaction of many players. Support for 32:9 monitors, a calibration menu for HDR, the ability to adjust brightness and contrast in games, as well as the option to eat food in the game world at the touch of a button are also included. Bethesda did not provide an exact date for future updates. Lastly, the company said they are also considering adding common requests from players, such as in-game city maps.
Bethesda recently announced that the PC version of Starfield will receive official mod support in 2024. Mods for the game can already be created, but with official support, the game’s Creation Kit will be available.
Starfield releases September 6 on PC, Xbox Series X and S, and Game Pass. People who have ordered the special edition can start using it five days in advance. Last week apparently it has that the game has a total of more than six million players. Lars Cornelis gave the game a 9 in his Gamer.nl review: “‘Skyrim in space’ doesn’t do Starfield justice, but at the same time is a perfect description of this total package. Starfield is so big, varied and detailed that it’s hard not to lost in this world. Not everything is perfect, but the negatives are completely overshadowed by the positives. In short, a typical Bethesda game. But in space.” Read ten important tips for beginners here.
