Today is May 4: the day we remember the dead in the Netherlands, but also the day many people around the world reflect on completely different things. So today is Star Wars Day. Even though the big Star Wars Celebration event just passed, some great announcements are always expected on May 4th. Or at least deals, as many stores take advantage of this moment to provide significant discounts and promote their Star Wars wares.
May the Fourth be with you
In case you missed it: the reason it’s always Star Wars Day on May 4th has to do with the English pronunciation of this date: ‘May the Fourth’. Sounds like the famous Star Wars quote: ‘May the power be with you’. A political party in the United Kingdom decided to congratulate Margaret Thatcher on her victory from the role of Prime Minister with the words: ‘May the Fourth be with you, Maggie. Happy!’ You might not expect it to be politically charged. Luckily, it no longer has anything to do with politics, but just Star Wars celebration.
So that we pay a little extra attention to George Lucas’ iconic space opera on the same day every year. Today we’re celebrating with fun facts about the franchise and of course lots of creative tweets.
