Saturday
Badminton – Velo recorded a 5-3 win over rivals Amersfoort in the Premier League. Singles matches Dion Rovers, Mats Duwel and Veda Diemel were all lost, other matches were won. Jim Middelburg and Milou Lugters won the doubles match after their opponents surrendered. Velo is currently ranked 5th in the Premier League. The next match will be held at the end of this month, against number 2 Almere.
Wednesday
Hand ball – The Quintus 3 women advanced to the next round of the cup tournament on Tuesday night. Heulsen won 21-45 against DWS in Schiedam. The second team WPK/Westlandia was too strong for Hellas (25-26)
Tuesday
Bicycle – Mylène de Zoete finished sixth in the Belgian Binche Chimay Binche one-day race. Pfeiffer Georgi of England won the competition, just ahead of Christina Schweinberger (Austria). Naaldwijk’s De Zoete came on in the eighth second.
Football – The KNVB Excelsior Maassluis – FC Volendam cup match will be played on Thursday, November 16. The match was originally scheduled to be played in early November, but was postponed because Volendam was already playing a catch-up match against Ajax.
Monday
Arrows – Dirk van Duijvenbode failed to reach the second round of World Grand Prix darts. In the first round Westlander lost against Northern Ireland’s Brendan Dolan.
Short path – Kay Huisman has earned a place in the Dutch selection for the World Cup competition in Montreal (October 20-22). The Monster native was selected due to his strong performances at last week’s National Short Track Championships and last weekend’s Dutch Open Short Tracks. This earned him a total of three silver medals.
chess – Martijn van IJzendoorn earned his first win in the fifth round of the World Draft Championship in Curaçao. De Wateringer was too strong for compatriot Ron Heusdens. Van IJzendoorn’s first four matches all ended in draws.
Judo – Margit de Voogd won the bronze medal at the European Open in Prague on Sunday. In the 70 kg class she lost in the quarter-finals to Portuguese tennis player Joana Crisostomo. In the repechages, she first beat Frenchwoman Clemence Eme and then Gioia Vetterli (Switzerland) in the match for bronze.
