Saturday

Badminton – Velo won the first game of the season, as expected. Roosterse of Limburg were defeated 6-2. Only men’s doubles (Jim Middelburg/Mees Janssen) and singles Veda Diemel lost.

Rugby – RC Hoek van Holland has started the new season in the premier league well. Cas, Castricum, was beaten at home on Saturday. The score is 29-20. Next week there is an away match against Haarlem on the program.

Friday

Arrows – Dirk van Duijvenbode was immediately eliminated from the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam. ‘s-Gravenzander had to admit his superiority in the first round over compatriot Danny Noppert: 6-4.

Badminton – Jim Middelburg returned to play for the Velo first team this season. Westlander had stopped last season to focus on his studies. So now he’s back. New to the team is Dane Martin Bundgaard. He comes from Drop Shot. Nick Fransman took the opposite route.

Thursday

Hand ball – National coach Per Johansson has included four players from the region in his provisional selection for the European Championship qualifiers against Portugal and Finland. Wateringen goalkeepers Rinka Duijndam (Györ) and Bianca Schanssema (Copenhagen), among others, are on the 26-player list. Kelly Vollebregt (Wateringen, Nantes) and Tessa van Zijl (Poeldijk, Elche) are also on the provisional list. Final selection will follow the week of September 25. International matches will be played on October 12 and 14.

Wednesday

Football – SV Den Hoorn Women also won their second cup match. Taurus was also ruled out 0-3. Den Hoorn will play second division Ariston’80 on Saturday.

Tuesday

Hand ball – In the first round of the cup tournament, WPK/Westlandia won quite easily against regional rivals and the Verburch competition. After the halftime score was 17-9, the game ended 31-15. In Wateringen Quintus 2 won 18-26 against Venéco/Velo 3.

Football – Two practice matches were played on Tuesday evening. Lyra lost 0-1 against Oliveo. Schipluiden won against Loosduinen by the same number.

Football – Westlandia immediately strengthened itself with Robin Buwalda. Former professional Leidschendam (29) hails from Finland’s IFK Mariehamn, previously he was active in the Netherlands at ADO Den Haag, VVV Venlo, NEC and Go Ahead Eagles. Technical manager Marko van der Knaap is delighted with the arrival of the experienced defender. “Robin fits perfectly with what we are looking for for Westlandia. We have a young and talented team with many of our own players, but we are still missing the experience of older, more experienced players.”
