Members of the International Solidarity Brigade for Volunteer Work May 1 donated supplies and consumables to the Provincial General Hospital Camilo Cienfuegos in Sancti Spíritus, in particular to the Grave Care Unit.
During the delivery of solidarity relief, members of the British, Portuguese and United States brigades, including doctors, nurses and paramedics, highlighted the humanist nature of Cuban medicine and described the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States as criminal. and the genocide United to the Antillean country over 60 years ago.
Members of the brigade are also interested in the alternative that the island’s Ministry of Public Health has put in place to maintain the vitality of health programs aimed at children and pregnant women and the population in general, despite being under siege by the United States.
Calla Walfa, a young American, condemned the restrictions imposed by her country’s government on the entry of medical equipment and supplies that can prevent death and worsening of several diseases. The blockade is killing and criminal, the activist said.
Meanwhile, Rodolfo Miller, director of the solidarity campaign with Cuba in the UK, explained that this donation was a contribution from members of various health unions in his country who admire Cuban doctors. Thanks to high scientific preparation and human resourcefulness, these professionals can, to a certain degree, deal with shortages in medical care and even help other sister countries, he added.
The donations consist of syringes, gloves, collection bags, analgesics and other medicines which are mainly used for the treatment of serious and critical patients.
Director of the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial Hospital, Dr. Aliosky Polo Santana, thanked for this humanitarian gesture, a way to acknowledge the projected solidarity of the Cuban Revolution throughout its history.
Comprised of nearly 250 members from 25 countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Chile, the United States and Ghana, the May 1st International Volunteer Work Brigade visits Sancti Spíritus starting this Wednesday and will participate in a march for World Day of Remembrance of the Proletariat, scheduled for this Friday in capital provincial city.
As part of their actions in this central region of Cuba, members of the brigade visited three agricultural and organoponic production cooperatives in the municipality of Sancti Spíritus, where they verified a real interest in increasing food production and achieving food sovereignty.
The solidarity group, which will be among the people of Sancti Spiritus until Saturday, also visited centers such as the José Martí Pérez University in Sancti Spíritus and the headquarters of the Provincial Delegation of the Institute of Cuban Friendship with Peoples.
