Samsung has acquired Oxford Semantic Technologies, a UK-based startup specializing in artificial intelligence (AI), data processing, and knowledge graph technology. The Korean conglomerate plans to use the company’s technology to enhance Galaxy AI. It has been working with the startup on various projects since 2018.
Oxford Semantic Technologies will help Samsung enhance the Galaxy AI experience
Founded in 2017 by three professors from the University of Oxford, Oxford Semantic Technologies offers cutting-edge technology in knowledge representation and semantic reasoning. “Turn data and knowledge into fast, accurate answers to complex questions,” the company’s official website states on its homepage. “Rules-based artificial intelligence powered by human-like reasoning and the best performing knowledge graph technology.”
Knowledge graph technology organizes information as a network of related ideas, similar to how people think and remember. It integrates and connects data, improving understanding of how people use a product or service. This enables faster information retrieval and better recommendations. It is a critical technology for realizing advanced and personalized AI solutions. Not surprisingly, developing and implementing this technology is challenging.
This technology requires complex computations to transform vast amounts of real-world data into useful knowledge graphs. Oxford Semantic Technologies develops and commercializes this technology. Its AI-centric engine, RDFox, is already being used by organizations around the world. It provides optimized data processing and advanced reasoning for cloud and on-device services. The company has customers in a variety of industries, including finance, manufacturing, and e-commerce.
Samsung said it has acquired Oxford Semantic Technologies, the company to gain deeper access to its technology and solutions. “With this acquisition, Samsung will gain a powerful core engine for personal knowledge graphs,” the company said in a press release. “These graphs integrate information and context across services and applications, creating personalized user experiences by better understanding users’ preferences and usage.”
