At least 45 out of 65 infant deaths can be prevented in two ways english hospitalaccording to an independent report published this Wednesday.

The investigation began in 2020 on maternity service at two hospitals in the city of Kent, in eastern England, examined more than 200 cases of poor care since 2009.

Bill Kirkup, head of the investigation, said staff ignored the mothers, adding that families were receiving “suboptimal” care.

According to the report, hospital management “failed to pay attention to the concerns women raised when they questioned their care and decisions made about their care.”

The report also found that hospital staff “disrespect” women and also “underestimate the abilities of their colleagues.”

Of the 17 cases of brain damage, 12 could have had different outcomes, according to the report.

Tracey Fletcher, executive director of the trust that manages the hospital under investigation, asked for “forgiveness” and apologized “selflessly for the damage and suffering caused to the women and babies in our care, along with their families.”

In a releaseFletcher added that “these families come to us expecting us to take care of them safely, and we let them down.”
