The Conservatives in the British Parliament have suspended former British health minister Matt Hancock over his participation in the reality show.
On to a reality show I’m a celebrity… get me out of here! where familiar faces are sent off into the woods, an average of twelve million Brits watch. And those numbers will increase with former Health Secretary Matt Hancock, 44, joining them. Politically, this participation has soured the former Minister of Health. But “he doesn’t expect to get into government again,” said a person close to Hancock.
Hancock was health minister when the coronavirus hit Britain in the spring of 2020. She’s become a well-known face in British politics, but in June last year she had to step aside when it was revealed she had broken her own social distancing rules due to an affair with a close employee.
Critics accused Hancock of wanting to polish her image and earn extra money by appearing on reality shows, instead of caring about her electorate. His entourage stated that it had been agreed with the production team that the politician could be contacted on urgent matters and wished to use the broadcast for his campaign against dyslexia.
Hancock is not the first politician to participate I’m a celebrity. In 2012, the event also wooed Nadine Dorries, who would later become Minister of Culture. In the tie with Hancock will also include pop singer Boy George.
