The Conservative Party in the UK Parliament has suspended former UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock over his participation in a reality show.
Go to reality show I’m a celebrity…get me out of here! where famous headlines are sent to the forest, an average of twelve million British people watch. And that number will increase when their former Health Secretary Matt Hancock, 44, joins. Politically, the former Minister of Health’s participation was sour. But “he doesn’t expect to be in government anymore,” said someone close to Hancock.
Hancock was health minister when the coronavirus hit Britain in the spring of 2020. She became a well-known face in British politics, but in June last year she was forced to step aside when it was revealed she had broken her own distance rules for extramarital affairs with close associates.
Critics accused Hancock that she wanted to polish her image and make extra money with her appearances on reality shows, rather than worrying about her electorate. His entourage stated that it had been agreed with the production team that the politician could be contacted on urgent matters and that he wanted to use the broadcast for his campaign against dyslexia.
Hancock is not the first politician to participate in I’m a celebrity. In 2012, the show also wooed Nadine Dorries, who later became Minister of Culture. In series with Hancock will also include pop singer Boy George.
