The Official Charts Company tracks album sales in the UK. In a unique list of the best-selling albums over the sixty-year history of the charts, Queen takes first place.
The chart celebrates its sixtieth anniversary with a list of the sixty best-selling albums. Queen’s Greatest Hits took first place. A total of six million copies were sold and the album spent 729 weeks in the Top 100.
Abba’s Gold took second place with 5.2 million albums sold and was followed by Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles with 5.1 million.
Adele’s 25 new works were released in December last year. has now surpassed the 3 million mark, placing it in 27th place on the list. Although his album 19 did not reach the top 60, 21, from 2011, came in fourth.
In addition to Adele’s two albums, the past ten years have also seen Progress (Take That at #57), at #33), The Fame (Lady Gaga, at #30) and Crazy Love (Michael BublĂ© at #24) join the top 60 best-selling albums.
