Panama is strengthening climate diplomacy with the UK

The Foreign Minister, Janaina Tewaney Mencomo, and Undersecretary Vladimir Franco, received Baroness Dorothy Hooper, for reaffirming climate diplomacy as a channel of trust between the two countries, they indicated in a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Undersecretary of State Franco acknowledged that Baroness Hooper had facilitated workshops such as on water management with the Panama Canal, an evaluation of technical needs on the Presidency of the Pro-Tempore East Pacific Ocean Tropical Corridor, and an important alliance with the Inter-American Development Bank which through the Green Fund offered its support. to increase electric mobility in our country.

On the other hand, he considered it appropriate to mention the UK’s contribution, through the Blue Planet Fund during Our Ocean 2023 Conference, to assist our management in the protection of the oceans and their ecosystems.

The United Kingdom recognizes Panama as a bridge to Latin America and the Caribbean, and strengthens ties between the two countries on a commercial and political level; among others on issues such as education, environment, health, safety and electric mobility.

Panama is one of the three carbon negative countries in the world, which means we absorb more greenhouse gases than we emit.
