Original: Dancing Under the Moonlight

One hit wonders made the Top 40. We had a lot of them and most of them scored that one hit hit again with someone else’s song.

Also not very original was the only hit of the British group Toploader, Dancing In The Moonlight. The basis of the song lay in 1970 with the original song Boffalongo. Three years later, the song became even more famous when King Harvest reached number 13 on the American charts. Sherman Kelly was in Boffalongo and Harvest Moon.

Before Toploader scored a hit with Dancing In The Moonlight, Baha Men entered the Canadian charts with the song, and became a top 5 hit. The Baha Men also became a one-hit wonder in our country after Who Let The Dogs Out remained their only hit of 2000… with one week at number 3.

Back to Dancing Under the Moonlight. The Toploader version did not initially go beyond number 19 in the UK, but later reached number 7 when reissued. It’s also interesting that BBC3 included the song in 2007 on its list of the 100 most annoying pop songs at that number. 17. In our country, Dancing In The Moonlight reached number 16. Its successor, Achilles Heel, caught on at Tipparade in late 2000 and you can still hear it on the radio occasionally.
