Netflix makes series about athletics in the style of Drive to Survive

There are several series about running, but Netflix is ​​working on a project that will follow some of the world’s fastest athletes. The six-part series will appear in 2024.

A new Netflix series about athletics

The title of the series is unknown, but it tells the story of the lives of top athletes from the United States, England, Italy, Ivory Coast and Jamaica. The series offers an exclusive look behind the scenes. The focus is on “the high stakes and mental toughness of sprinters who devote their entire lives to clocking, while their professional future is decided in a fraction of a second,” according to US media.

Drive to Survive

The project is produced by Box to Box Films, creators of other sports-focused documentary series such as Drive to Survive, Full swing And break point. In particular Drive to Survive greatly influenced the popularity of Formula One. In the United States, ticket sales and race day ratings increased after the first season aired.

Filmed during the World Cup in Budapest

During the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, a lot of filming was done for the documentary series. However, Netflix has not announced who will appear in this competitive field. It remains an American production, but since TeamNL managed to amass a record number of medals during the World Cup, we hope our Dutch athletes will also be part of this series. Although it was only two dramatic falls from Sifan Hassan and Femke Bol, which saw two more medals lost.
