Last Saturday was National Neighbors Day again. Activities were held throughout the region, including at the SV.CO plant farmer in De Lier. Owner Sander Verbeek wanted more connections between horticulture and local residents. That’s why he invited the neighbors to tour the greenhouse.
With this action, Verbeek wants to put a positive spin on the sector. “As horticulturists, we have a good story to tell, but when you listen to public opinion or the press, we often have a negative attitude towards it,” Verbeek said. With this action, he is trying to create more understanding among local residents. According to Verbeek, neighbors can feel the disturbance from the company: “Sometimes there are trucks passing by, sometimes there is noise, sometimes there is something that can cause irritation.” Therefore, according to him, it is important to explain the processes that occur in the greenhouse, so that residents better understand why there are sometimes disturbances.
Good luck
Verbeek said he received many good and enthusiastic responses. Neighbor Truus van der Meer is also enthusiastic about the tour: “My husband always says he wants to see what it’s like inside, and it just so happens that we’ve now received an invitation in the mail. So that’s really exciting.”
