This Tuesday, the former president of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) Juan Angel Napout, convicted and in prison in Miami, United States of America, had to undergo eye surgery because his eyesight is very impaired. Virginia Napout, the convict’s sister, insists the operation was not carried out and believes the North American justice system violated her human rights.
“They didn’t operate on him, he got a written appointment from the United States. Yesterday they took him to the hospital, they kept him for 6 hours, the doctor who treated him didn’t even know why he left, he did a check-up and sent him back to jail. They did regular checkups to tell him the same thing, that he needed urgent surgery. This is the fourth time they made a promise and didn’t keep it,” he said in contact with La Nación/Nación Media.
She said that her brother Cataract surgery has been indicated for more than two years. The former sports manager only saw a shadow in the right side of his eye for a time, while on the left the cataract developed quite quickly. Virginia Napout showed that convicts still have rights, because only freedom is deprived, not the right to health, He added that the people from the prison bureau should take care of their health.
Likewise, that fact qualifies as psychological torture and a violation of all human rights for both Juan Ángel and his family. “Obviously it’s a violation of human rights and psychological torture. There’s also discrimination, because if he were an American, he’d be at home next month.”showed.
