The number of overnight businesses decreased between 2007 and 2009 2.6 milliona decrease of 16 percent. Since then, the number of overnight businesses has increased, despite a decline in 2012. By 2015, the number of overnight businesses had returned to the same level as in 2008.
A quarter of the business overnights in Amsterdam
North and South Holland move together 9.8 million overnight stays in 2015 attracted more than half of business visitors. Amsterdam is one of the largest cities 4.5 million overnight stays are the leaders, followed at some distance by Rotterdam and The Hague, each with approx. 800 thousand stay overnight. Overnight stays for business are mostly in the spring (April and May) and fall (September and October), while most leisure tourists come in the summer months.
Foreign business travelers spend more money than leisure travelers
According to the NBTC, foreign business travelers staying overnight in the Netherlands spend more money than leisure travelers. In 2015, the average foreign business traveler provided… 1,035 euros per trip, while the average tourist 600 euros spent. Business travelers in particular are looking for three and four star hotels on. From this group lived 81 percent in 2015 in hotels in this segment, against 73 percent from tourists. In one in five cases, a business trip is combined with a leisure trip, such as a museum visit or excursion.

Most multi-day business travelers come from the UK
In 2015, according to NBTC, approx 3.8 million foreign business travelers in the Netherlands. More than 100,000 travelers came 700 thousand from England, 405 thousand from Germany and 390 thousand from the United States. Apart from a number of European countries, China and Japan are also in the top ten.
