Vaccines will be bought by the government

The Minister of Health, Jorge López, confirmed that he was working with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to determine which countries would purchase the monkeypox vaccine en bloc. Our country has many cases.

“There must be a minimum purchase of 100,000 doses so that PAHO can make a purchase. We are continuing to talk to PAHO to make a joint purchase,” he said.

López determined that a committee of experts from Minsa was evaluating the purchase of this vaccine. He also pointed out that work is being done on the treatment of confirmed cases of monkeypox, as well as follow-up of contacts to prevent the spread of this virus.

UK faces vaccine shortage

The UK is running out of its monkeypox vaccine and may be forced to suspend its immunization program for several weeks, the BBC revealed on Monday.

An internal report from the UK’s Public Health Agency (UKHSA) shows it is starting to limit appointments to receive doses to dedicate the rest of the vaccine to people who have been exposed to the virus.

UKHSA has said that about 25,000 doses have been delivered and is trying to speed up delivery of a further 100,000.

So far 3,017 cases of monkeypox have been detected in the UK and experts believe the outbreak is starting to slow.
