This amount represents an increase of 9.3% compared to 2 thousand 654 cases detected last week.
The unit led by Jorge Alcocer reported that the infection present in 32 state entities.
To date, Mexico City remains the city with the most cases, with a total of 1,725, followed by Jalisco, with 327; from the State of Mexico, with 295; from Yucatan, with 102, and from Quintana Roo, with 85.
Authorities report that investigate whether the death of six people who had monkeypox—five men and one woman— it’s because of this disease.
“These are people who had lesions consistent with monkeypox during medical treatment and which were confirmed after their laboratory studies. The causes were carefully analyzed by a group of infectologists and epidemiologists to determine whether there was a causal relationship between death and monkeypox virus infection,” said the secretariat.
Authorities ruled out that the disease could cause a large-scale outbreak, as its spread requires close human contact. However, they called for precautionary measures.
In this context, the groups urged the federal government to deploy an extensive prevention campaign and purchase the smallpox vaccine to be implemented among high-incidence groups.
