Marko doesn’t know if De Vries is still a Formula 1 driver in Zandvoort

Nyck de Vries is having a normal Friday in the UK. Dutch rider AlphaTauri posted the eleventh fastest time in the first free practice, but couldn’t be further than the nineteenth fastest time in the second practice. Helmut Marko, meanwhile, has openly doubted De Vries’ future.

De Vries has had a disappointing season in the premier class of motorsport. The Dutchman has yet to score a single World Championship point, having been slower than teammate Yuki Tsunoda and he knows he has to prove himself fast. According to rumours, De Vries only has three races left, including this weekend, to show improvement. After the summer vacation, he could have been fired.

The first race after the summer break will be its home race at the Zandvoort circuit. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko is yet to know if De Vries will advance that weekend. In a conversation with Viaplay, Marko had doubts: “When is the race in Zandvoort? After the summer break? Then I can only tell you in Zandvoort. We are considering it. It’s no secret that it doesn’t give us what we expect. It’s a tough sport and we must look to the future. We are waiting for his performance. If necessary, we will make a decision.”
