Lonely Planet ranked Rotterdam 5th in its top 10 ‘top cities’

Lonely Planet announced this on Wednesday. In the whole world, Rotterdam can only tolerate the cities of Kotor (Montenegro), Quito (Ecuador), Dublin and George Town (Malaysia). Lonely Planet praised the South Holland port city for its ‘modern, postmodern and contemporary buildings’ as well as its ‘variety of art, high-quality restaurants and exciting nightlife’.

Things also look good for Rotterdam in the future, Lonely Planet said in a press release. ‘The wave of urban development and redevelopment will continue in 2016, securing Rotterdam’s position as one of the must-visit destinations.’

The city government reacted with pride. “Travel authorities have declared Rotterdam one of the most attractive cities in the world today,” council member Maarten Struijvenberg (Economics) told ANP. ‘As a city, we couldn’t receive a greater compliment.’
