Legendary singer, guitarist and songwriter David Crosby has died at the age of 81. Crosby was an important member of two of the most influential bands of the 1960s: The Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. In 2011, David Crosby came to Democracy Now! with longtime collaborator Graham Nash shortly after appearing at an event organized by the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York. On that occasion, Crosby spoke of his longstanding opposition to nuclear power.

david crosby: “The second part is humans make mistakes. This is what happened at Chernobyl. Likewise on Three Mile Island. Mother Nature can kick our butts any time she wants. so it happened [también] in Fukushima. No security. there are two floors [nucleares] in California right on the beach. One of them is on the fault line. It is 80 kilometers, downwind, from my house. I usually look in there to make sure I see a puff of smoke, when it does. There is no guarantee of safety and no ecology about poisoning your country.”

During their performance on Democracy Now!, David Crosby and Graham Nash also covered parts of Crosby’s song “What are their name.”

David Crosby and Graham Nash: [cantando] “Who are the people who actually run this land?
And why did they handle it in such a reckless manner?
What are their names?
And on which street do they live?
I want to visit you this afternoon and tell you something about what I think
about peace for mankind.
Peace is not too much to ask for.”
