Jess Glynne just tasted success with Hold My Hand

The UK will hear Jesse Glynne’s debut album, I Cry When I Laugh, on August 21. And the singer is already a household name there, having already topped the singles charts four times.

The singer told Official Charts that she was fascinated by artists like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin from an early age. She would listen to their songs and then sing them into her tape recorder. And she always kept the tapes.

Prince is her main role model, but she cites Amy Winehouse as her biggest inspiration. Because of her accomplishments, I finally took the plunge to actually do something in music.

Funnily enough, the singer only really felt successful with Hold My Hand. “That actually felt like my first number one,” she says. By contrast, Be, her collaboration with Route 94, was our biggest hit of the year. But the feeling of Hold My Hand hitting number one in the UK was emotional.

Dutch fans will have to be a little more patient than British fans; the album will be released in the Netherlands on September 11.
