Since 2019, Hoorn is the proud host of IRONMAN 70.3 Westfriesland. This event offers athletes a fast, flat track surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of Holland with its windmills, polders and historic villages. This year, Hoorn will again welcome local and international athletes, especially from Germany, Great Britain and Belgium. The event also features a variety of entertainment, including the IRONMAN Official Merchandise store and food partners such as Gatorade, Maurten and 226ers.
Welcome athletes
Thibault Vellard, Southwest Europe Regional Director of The IRONMAN Group, is excited: “We look forward to welcoming all athletes to Westfriesland, the perfect environment for triathlons. We strive to provide an unforgettable racing experience for every athlete, from young IRONKIDS participants to athletes competing in the IRONMAN 70.3 format and short distances.”
‘Set up a successful event’
Eddy Bakker, Chair of the Westfriesland Events Foundation, added: “We are delighted to be hosting IRONMAN 70.3 Westfriesland 2023. We are confident that we will put on another great event the weekend of 25th June. The IRONMAN Group has done a great job and together we will make IRONMAN 70.3 Westfriesland 2023 a huge success. With our updated swimming, cycling and running courses and all the elements of competition in one day, we believe we have successfully taken the IRONMAN 70.3 Westfriesland to the next level for athletes, spectators and residents of Westfriesland.”
Different paths
The competition starts at 07:00 with a 1.9 km swimming course in the port of Hoorn. This is followed by an improved 90 kilometers of cycle paths through the picturesque surroundings of Westfriesland. The event concludes with a 21.1 kilometer track run in downtown Hoorn.
Strekers Athletic Association
The SAV athletic association (Grootebroek) is also looking forward to IRONKIDS Westfriesland. This event offers members the chance to test their fitness and sportsmanship while competing against each other in a fun way. Nina Wenners, SAV athlete participated for the third time. “It’s great fun to compete with the kids from the club,” says Nina.
CHILDREN OF IRON
Julianapark in Hoorn will be prepared for the IRONKIDS competition on Friday 23 June from 15:00. Children of different age groups will participate in the competition held on the same course as IRONMAN West Friesland athletes will race on Sunday, 25 June.
