Lloyds Bank has strengthened itself with ING Chief Technology Officer: Ron van Kemenade. Van Kemenade will fill the same position at Lloyds Bank.
Van Kemenade was not only an ING veteran, but also the bank’s first CTO. In this capacity, he played a key role in ING’s digital transition in recent years.
Lloyds Bank’s new CTO will start his new challenge in June 2023 and will be responsible for driving the Bank’s technology and data strategy. He will also lead the technology team in line with Lloyds Bank’s new strategy and reorganisation. The Bank of England plans to invest £1 billion over the next three years to improve its technology infrastructure and digital services.
The bank hopes to move a fifth of its applications to the cloud by 2024 and also wants to retire 15% of its legacy systems. Lloyds Bank CEO Charlie Nunn called the CTO role important for the company, “given the pace of technological innovation and the importance of technology and data as factors in realizing its long-term growth strategy.”
Strong foundation
Van Kemenade thanked ING CEO Steven van Rijswijk for his service. “For more than a decade, he has played a critical role in creating a strong technology foundation that enables us to deliver superior digital experiences to our customers. I would like to wish him success in his new position.”
Outgoing CTO Van Kemenade explained that it would be difficult for him to leave the orange family after almost twenty years. “At the same time, I am excited to take on new opportunities and gain new perspectives.”
“I will always cherish the years I spent at ING, everything I learned, the experience I gained and especially the great people I worked with,” concluded Van Kemenade.
