How much influence does love have on us? How can memes harm us?
Social networks have become an important part of everyday life. especially among young people, who use it as a primary means of communication.
However, something unknown about them, is that its use can affect our health.
Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH) and the British Youth Health Movement (YHM), published a report that examined the positive and negative effects of the network on its users.
In 2017, both institutions conducted a survey of nearly 1,500 young people (aged between 14 and 24 years) England, where they were asked to rate how each of the social media platforms they use impacts 14 mental health-related problems.
Social networks can be a great tool for communication, learning, innovation, creativity, etc., but it is this misuse and abuse that causes a lot of problems.
5% of young people have arrived to fall into addiction to social networks, also, its use is associated with increasing anxiety and depression, as well as difficulty sleeping and self-esteem problems.
The most mentioned problems with social networks, is cyber bullying because 7 out of 10 boys claim to have experienced it.
Also, some people are afraid of being ignored and displayed big need to be aware of others and not ‘losing’ details of other people’s lives.
Among the recommendations provided for the correct use of social networks, are:
-Limit its use to certain periods of the day.
-Do not use every day and disconnect from time to time.
-Don’t save your social networks on your phone.
-If these recommendations seem a bit complicated, you can seek professional help.
