Since being sworn in as president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro has received several manifestations of support from various leaders in the world and Queen Elizabeth II is one of them.
Representatives of the United Kingdom sent a letter to the new president of Colombia in which he stressed his good wishes and reaffirmed the close relations between the two countries.
“I would like to extend my congratulations to you on your inauguration as President of the Republic of Colombia. Our two countries have a close relationship, since the independence of your country. I hope that our warm and strong relationship continues throughout your presidency and I send my best wishes to you and to the Colombian people.” Says a short letter sent by the queen, where you can see her signature, written digitally on paper.
The UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy and Tim Hemmings, British Deputy Ambassador to Colombia, were delegates present at the change of government and inauguration. Therefore, on August 7, they sent him a document that would be especially dedicated to President Gustavo Petro.
“Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II sent a message to President Gustavo Petro, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to cooperation and highlighting the close relationship between the two countries.” For its part, the British embassy shared on its social network on Twitter with a picture of the letter.

After days in office, Gustavo Petro has forged close ties with disparate leaders, as was the case of Chile’s president, Gabriel Boric, whom he thanked on Twitter for making his country available for the peace process.
“I appreciate the willingness of Chilean President Gabriel Boric to help us build a peace agreement with the ELN. We also use the meeting to invite you to strengthen the Latin American integration process for the development of our nation,” wrote Petro.
