George Young, writer, producer and member of The Easybeats and Flash And The Pan, has died aged 70

Young moved from England to Australia as a teenager and comes from a musical family where his younger brothers Malcolm and Angus founded the group AC/DC and his older brother, Alexander, was the bassist and singer of Grapefruit. In the 1960s, George started the group The Easybeats with Harry Vanda. In 1966, Friday On My Mind, co-written with George, spent two weeks at the top of the Top 40. In 1968 Hello, How Are You? In the top 10 of our country. From the 1970s onwards, Young focused on record production. This resulted in songs such as Love Is In The Air (John Paul Young). Together with Vanda he founded the group Flash & The Pan. This resulted in three Top 40 hits between 1977 and 1985 with Hey St. Peter, Waiting For A Train and Midnight Man.

A consummate writer, innovative producer, artist, mentor and extraordinary musician. Most importantly, he was a humble, charming, intelligent and loyal man; a man with a great sense of humor.”
