France has made a very good start to the European Football Championship in England. On Sunday night, Italy completely lost at Rotherham, especially before the break: 5-1!
Defensive midfield star Grace Geyoro has been the standout player in the French team. Defensive minded Paris Saint-Germain players scored no less than 3 times before halftime. After 9 minutes, Geyoro opened the score which was doubled a few minutes later by Marie-Antoinette Katoto.
Humiliation to break
After that, national coach Corinne Diacre’s team revived and the score increased significantly. Delphine Cascarino made it 3-0 in the 38th minute, and 7 minutes later it was 5-0 through two goals from Geyoro. After the break, France took it a bit easier and Italy captain Sara Gama was pleased he was allowed to stay on the pitch.
The 33-year-old defender initially received a red card after hitting his opponent hard and roughly, but VAR overturned the decision. Italy then saved honor after being beaten by Martina Piemonte.
Southern neighbors
Earlier in the evening, Belgium and Iceland played against each other in the same group. They are no further than in Manchester a 1-1 draw.
VAR saved the day! A bad day almost got a lot worse but Italy captain Sara Gama escaped a straight red card after a review decided it was too harsh.
