MADRID, October 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Sajid Javid, who was Britain’s Health Secretary during the Boris Johnson administration, has shown his support for former Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak in light of his possible candidacy to replace Liz Truss as Britain’s chief executive.
Javid and Sunak were, perhaps unknowingly, the driving force behind Johnson’s departure from Downing Street, as their resignations in early July were followed by dozens of other senior British officials stepping down in protest against the then Prime Minister.
Thus, Javid has released a statement this Friday on his profile on the social network Twitter in which he has stressed that the responsibility of the political class, “as a public servant”, is to make decisions aimed at satisfying the “national interest”.
“Our country desperately needs economic stability, good decision-making and strong leadership. It is very clear that Rishi Sunak has what it takes to meet the challenges we face,” said Javid, who said Sunak was “the right person”.
Similarly, the former Health Minister views that it is in the national interest to have a strong Conservative Party, and for that it is important to overcome the mistakes of the past and move forward together and focus on the future.
At the moment, this is the clearest sign of support for Sunak, who has yet to confirm his participation in the main process to replace Truss, who stepped down on Thursday.
The former Treasury Secretary did appear in this process following Johnson’s departure, advancing to the final against Truss.
