Egypt is preparing for COP27, the climate summit in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm al Sheik. Critics point out that Egyptian President Al-Sisi is using the summit as a massive PR stunt to divert attention from the dark side of his own regime. Gretha Thunberg, for example, has said she will not attend a summit “in a tourist haven in a country that violates human rights and makes it difficult for climate activists to make their voices heard.” We spoke to an activist – and looking forward to a climate summit with correspondents Ruth vandeWalle.
