In January 2020, exports of ornamental plants continued to increase 10 percent the value compared to January 2019. In February, the increase was much lower at 3 percent compared to the previous year.
The decline in floriculture exports in March was largely due to cut flowers (-26 percent). Exports of plants and tree nursery products increased in March 18 percent dead, namely flower bulbs and other ornamental plants 25 percent.
The export value is as large as the entire year 2019 9.5 billion euro and floriculture are the most exported agricultural products in the Netherlands.

Shrinkage of 61 percent in Italy’s fifth export destination
For the ten most important floriculture destination countries from the Netherlands in 2019, the value of exports experienced a significant decline in March 2020 compared to the previous year. The smallest decline among these ten occurred in floriculture aimed at the UK (-13 percent), while the decline in exports to Italy was the largest (-61 percent). Also exports to the United States and Switzerland (both -33 percent) decreased sharply.

Germany was by far the biggest customer in 2019
In 2019, Germany was the largest buyer of floriculture products (2.6 billion euro), followed by the UK (1.1 billion), French (1.0 billion), Belgium (0.5 billion) and Italy (0.4 billion). Poland, Russia, Switzerland, Sweden and the United States complete the top ten.
Floriculture exports to Germany existed before 43 percent from cut flowers, 48 percent plants or trees, and 10 percent flower bulbs or other products. When exporting to Italy 52 percent plants or trees, 31 percent cut flowers and 17 percent flower bulbs or others. Exports to the United States contain a very high percentage of flower bulbs and other ornamental plants (51 percent).
