European Championship: The circling Germany packs a punch for poor Denmark

Germany had a very good start to the European Championships in England. At Brentford Community Stadium, Denmark got knocked out: 4-0!

From the first whistle it was clear what Germany had to do in London: 3 points left from the first group match against Denmark. The Scandinavian side didn’t know what to do with the Germans who dazzled in the opening phase, who put pressure on them and forced them into mistakes. 1 of those errors was fatal for the Danes after 20 minutes of play.

Lina Magull capitalized on a weak lost ball and chased the skin hard to the ropes. After the break, Germany looked for a doubler and got it through Lea Schüller after an hour of play. After Svenja Huth’s goal was disallowed for offside, Lena Lattwein still scored the 3rd goal from a free kick practice.

It didn’t stop there for national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s team, who had more chances and blew opponents away with energy. Substitute Sydney Lohmann served on Alexandra Popp for 4-0 in the final round, completing Denmark’s penalty (see below), after which Kathrine Kühl had to go off with a red card. Earlier in the evening, Spain beat Finland in the same group (4-1).
