Europe embraces Europapa | Top 40 News

Europe loves Joost. Although his Eurovision song did not make it to the final, Europapa reached the charts in several countries.

On Friday, the new week’s goal list is presented in many European countries. Europapa appears in various countries. This is special not only because the song was missing from the Eurovision Song Contest final, but also because in most of these countries a Dutch song was never recorded.

Lithuania
Joost achieved his most special achievement in Lithuania. Europapa was also listed there a few weeks ago. This makes the Balkan country the only country after the Netherlands and Belgium where Europapa has been on the official target list before the Eurovision Song Contest. After the presentation of the Dutch entry, Europapa entered the Top 100 at number 40. At first Joost didn’t seem to have gained anything, but last week his song entered the Top 100 again at number 22. Now he has immediately risen to first position. , with which he leaves behind entries from Ukraine, Switzerland, Croatia and Lithuania – who complete the top 5.

Uncle Robert
Not only is Lithuania crazy about the Eurovision song, but also Joost himself. Apart from the number 1 hit, Joost is also back on the list along with Friesenjung which also had a modest hit there at the end of 2023. This song is now at number 15. But what is most special is number 50 on the Lithuanian Top 100. Another song from Joost is in there: six-year-old song Ome Robert, from the 2018 album Albino. Lithuania is clearly very excited to discover music from the 26-year-old Frisian, because when we look at Lithuania’s album list, we see the albums Fryslân and Albino respectively at number 20 and 41. Thanks to Uncle Robert, Joost now has more hits in Lithuania than in Germany and the Netherlands.

First Dutch language hit on the English charts
One of the most followed charts in the world is the UK. Europapa also appears there. The Dutch Eurovision Song Contest entry was at number 37. There has never been a song in Dutch recorded in the country. Unlike in Lithuania, Joost was not the highest ranking Eurovision candidate in the UK. There he had to tolerate winners Nemo with The Code (Switzerland) and runner-up Baby Lasagna from Croatia with Rim Tim Tagi Dim (Croatia). These entries arrive at numbers 18 and 36. Under Joost we also have Eurovision Song Contest songs from the UK (Dizzy by Olly Alexander at 48), Ireland (Doomsday Blue by Bambie Thug at 67) and Ukraine (Teresa & Maria by Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil at 100) against.

Pastor
This is the fifth time a Dutch Eurovision entry has appeared on the UK’s hit list. These are the predecessors of Europapa:

  • Mouth & MacNeal – I See A Star (number 8 1974)
  • Teach In – Ding-A-Dong (number 13 of 1975)
  • The Common Linnets – Calm After the Storm (number 9 of 2014)
  • Duncan Laurence – Arcade (number 29 in 2021*)

*Duncan Laurence won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019, but he did not go beyond 67th place. In 2021, Arcade became a hit again thanks to TikTok and reached 29th place.

The whole world
This isn’t everything for Joost. Europapa also entered the official charts this week in Finland (number 2), Sweden (number 4), Germany (number 13), Norway (number 17) and Ireland (number 22). In the first three countries, it even became the highest ranking Eurovision song on the charts. Lastly, Joost is ranked 17th on the hit list of New Zealand, a country that doesn’t even participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. Europapa is also the highest rated Eurovision there.

Depth
In most of the above countries, Dutch language hits have never entered the charts. The exception is Sweden, where The Depth of S10 is listed for a week in 2022. However, he is not reaching as high as Joost is now. In the same year, Belgian rapper Makar reached 15th place in Germany with the Dutch song Mood. In terms of highest position, Joost has now also surpassed this performance.

Some countries only announce the new week’s charts on Saturday or Sunday. We’ll be watching to see if Europapa surprises in more places around the world.
