Finally! In Great Britain, a man was banned from entering a football stadium for 3 years after sending racist messages to striker Ivan Toney. According to his club Brentford is this the first time someone has gotten a stadium ban for racism on social media.
Antonio Neill, 24, sent racist messages to the striker in October. Now he has been sentenced to a 3-year stadium ban by the court. He was not allowed to enter any stadiums in the UK, nor was he allowed to attend English club or national team matches overseas. In addition, Neill received a suspended prison sentence of 4 months.
New law
The man has been punished new law adopted in the UK in 2022. This will make it easier to punish people for online hate messages towards football players.
‘Black skin’
Toney himself posted the man’s racist messages on his social media. Among other things, Neill called her a ‘black bitch’.
