Storm Agnes will hit almost all of the UK today and tomorrow with strong winds and heavy rain. The Met Office of Britain’s national weather agency warned of strong gusts of wind, possible flooding, power cuts, fallen trees and disruption to road traffic and public transport.

On Wednesday morning, Agnes, the first storm of the autumn and winter, hit Ireland’s southwest coast with winds of 80 kilometers per hour. Agnes can cause damage to buildings, road and air traffic jams, and power outages. Winds are expected to be strongest on Wednesday afternoon and evening. There can also be a lot of rain. Rainfall is expected to reach 20 to 50 mm.

The Met Office has issued several weather warnings from 12 noon on Wednesday to 7am on Thursday. This applies to Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, as well as the southwest of England, the West Midlands and much of the north of England. The most rain is expected in Ireland and parts of Scotland.

Coastal areas are most at risk due to high waves and strong winds, with gusts of up to 120 kilometers per hour. These wind speeds are also possible in hilly areas and parts of northwest Wales.

Ryanair warned that flights to and from Ireland would be significantly delayed on Wednesday. P&O Ferries has also canceled some ferry sailings.
