Between September 5 and 8, the 9th ISAAH International Symposium will be held, organized by the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. On this occasion, experts from Elanco Aqua will present studies and analyzes of various biological and pharmaceutical products indicated for diseases that affect salmon in various regions of the world.
As part of its global commitment to fish health, welfare and performance of aquaculture species, Elanco Aqua will participate in the 9th ISAAH International Symposium, where the health of aquatic animals will be discussed and protected. The seminar will be held for the first time in Chile, at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Pontifical Catholic University.
Elanco exhibitors Ragnar Thorarinsson, Juan Carlos RodrÃguez and Julio Boettiger, will present the results of various investigations and analysis of Elanco’s solutions indicated for the following diseases affecting Atlantic salmon: Pancreatic Disease (PD), Bacterial Kidney Disease (BKD) and Caligidosis, in areas such as Norway and Chile, respectively.
Ragnar Thorarinsson will present on nucleic acid or DNA based vaccine technology for the prevention and control of viral diseases affecting farmed salmon production. Over the past 15 years, Elanco has worked on this platform and developed two DNA plasmid vaccines, the first in 2005 for protection against Infectious Hematopoietic Necrosis (IHN) disease at production sites in Canada and the second, launched in 2017 to counteract the effects of the disease. Pancreas (PD) in Norway, England and Ireland. Both vaccines contain small circular DNA plasmids that are taken up by cells adjacent to the injection site and direct the production of virus-specific antigens using the host cell machinery, similar to the mechanism of some vaccines. Investigators will also present the results of a recent performance and efficacy study of the Elanco DNA vaccine for PD.
Meanwhile, Juan Carlos RodrÃguez will announce -through the Symposium Poster format- the results of the evaluation of the immune response in fish following the implementation of the live heterologous Elanco vaccine which is indicated to prevent and control the disease called BKD (Bacterial Kidney Disease) in North America and Chile.
Finally, Julio Boettiger will also share in Poster format, the results of statistical analysis of data on the use of Elanco antiparasitics on Atlantic salmon which are indicated for preventing and controlling parasites. Caligus rogercresseyi in Chile.
