CTO Görkem Köseoğlu resigns from ING after two months due to differences in leadership styles

Görkem Köseoğlu’s adventure as Chief Technology Officer at ING didn’t last long. Two months after his appointment, Köseoğlu again left the orange bench due to “discussing different views regarding expectations regarding his leadership role”.

Köseoğlu was put forward on September 1 as the successor to Ron van Kemenade, who left for Lloyds Bank. Het Financieele Dagblad called the CTO’s departure after two months “very extraordinary”. “Especially for someone who has worked at a bank for twelve years and is familiar with the culture at the institution.”

Additionally, the newspaper considered it significant that the press release announcing his departure did not contain a statement from the main actor. FD also stated that CEO Steven van Rijswijk was not known as a troublemaker.

Amazing or not, in the same press release van Rijswijk stated that he regretted his departure and thanked Köseoğlu for his service. “We wish him the best in the future,” said the ING CEO.

Until the bank finds a permanent successor, Marnix van Stiphout will once again take over as CTO on an interim basis. Van Stiphout also took over this position temporarily after Van Kemenade left.
