A look outside showed that autumn had clearly arrived in the country. In the second half of the week we will get more rain and wind, thanks to the powerful autumn storm Ciarán. “We expect strong wind gusts on Thursday and Friday, and perhaps even bigger ones over the weekend,” said forecaster Frank Deboosere.
Following the passage of Storm Babet, which caused at least five deaths and major damage in the UK, calm is unlikely to return to the weather map any time soon. The British weather service predicted heavy rain, flooding and winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour on Thursday. The core of storm Ciarán then moved towards us from the south of England through the Channel.
“This is a very deep depression with very low air pressure, and the storm in France will probably have a very bad impact on Brittany and Normandy,” said weather expert Frank Deboosere. “At the core, the atmosphere is almost windless, but as the isobars get closer together, the wind speed gets higher.”

In our country, Ciarán will be accompanied by strong gusts of wind on Thursday and Friday, especially on the coast. “In western areas, wind speeds are expected to reach 70 to 90 kilometers per hour, although this is still early and the forecast may be adjusted in the coming days.” Winds will also be quite strong on Saturday and Sunday. “The good news is that wind turbines will operate at full capacity on those days.”
There is no night frost
“The trees still have heavy leaves, so many branches will break in the next few days,” said Deboosere. Usually most of the leaves fall from the trees after the first frost, but it doesn’t look like temperatures will drop any time soon. “The air supplied is still very soft. Next week will be a little colder, but for now there will be no night frosts.” (Read more at bottom of post)
Deboosere doesn’t expect much sunshine this weekend, but a look back at October shows that it was a very normal month in terms of sunshine duration. It is also estimated that there are no records regarding rainfall. What is surprising is that October will be a very warm month. “We will definitely be in the top ten hottest months in October, but we no longer consider that strange,” the weather expert noted. “Plus, this is good news for our heating bills.”
