Cardiff City have not been allowed a player after refusing to pay the late Sala’s transfer fee

Cardiff City will not be allowed to sign any players during the upcoming transfer window, the club have confirmed to the BBC. Thus, the English 2nd tier club was punished for refusing to pay the first part of the transfer fee for footballer Emiliano Sala, who died in 2019.

The Argentinian died on the flight from France to England. The 28-year-old Argentinian Sala is on track to complete a €17 million transfer from French club Nantes to Cardiff City. However, his plane disappeared from radar over The Channel. Sala’s body has been found, the pilot’s remains have not been found.

Cardiff City must pay Nantes 6 million euros for the late striker. FIFA’s ruling was confirmed last summer by the international sports tribunal CAS. The club tried to find a solution to a financial settlement through consultations, but to no avail. Nantes then went to the world football association.

“We have not paid and currently have no intention of doing so,” said Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman. His club is 20th in the Championship, England’s 2nd tier.
