Capgemini supports UK defence labs with technology and science

The UK Ministry of Defense has engaged Capgemini to upgrade its technology and science laboratories.

This concerns the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl). This is an executive body of the Ministry of Defence which aims to maximise the UK’s defence and security through the use of technology and science.

Dstl and Capgemini have entered into a three-year partnership, which can be extended in the future. The consultation will, among other things, assist executive bodies in carrying out digital transformation.

This collaboration is based on a partnership between Dstl and Cambridge Consultants, an international technology consultancy that has been part of Capgemini since 2021.

In addition to assisting Dstl in its digital transformation, Capgemini will also provide support for a range of projects aimed at improving security in the UK.

Improving interoperability

“We are delighted that Capgemini has been selected following a rigorous competitive process to support Dstl in harnessing the latest scientific and technological advances to protect the UK’s defence and security,” said Matt Howell, head of Capgemini’s UK public sector practice.

“Our proposed solution will contribute to greater interoperability with the wider UK defence and security organisation. We are drawing on our experience in this area both within and outside government, so that services can be reused where possible. In this way, Dstl benefits from access to best practice solutions and economies of scale.”

“We are excited to partner with Capgemini as we enter a new era of IT services at Dstl,” said David English, Chief Operating Officer at Dstl. “This new contract will further support our many demanding science and technology projects and deliver greater benefits.”

“Our partnership with Capgemini will help Dstl deliver high-impact science and technology projects that underpin the UK’s future defence and national security needs.”

The famous combination

The defense world routinely engages consulting firms on a variety of issues. Since last summer, Arcadis has been supporting the US Army Corps of Engineers with infrastructure development around water supplies.

In our country, the Ministry of Defense started a partnership with NIC a few years ago. The consulting firm has helped the Dutch ministry, among other things, improve its purchasing processes and contract management.
