Britain’s JD Sports Fashion wants to take over Perry Sport and Aktiesport stores. The company has requested permission for this from the Dutch Consumer and Markets Authority.
The company, which has more than 800 stores in the UK, wants to take over 58 Perry Sport branches and 131 Aktiesport branches from the bankrupt Unlimited Sports Group (USG). They also want to continue the two online stores. The two retail chains have a total of around 2,500 employees. It’s unclear how many of those people will be able to keep their jobs.
The administrators of USG, which declared bankruptcy last month, could not be reached for comment. On Monday, a spokesman said it could take weeks before clarity emerges on a possible restart of the economy. JD Sports Fashion is also out of reach.
A week ago, the shop’s curator, Toni van Hees, filed a lawsuit against four banks claiming the shop’s entire turnover. The parties reached an agreement on the distribution of the money received by the shops.
Sports store and parent company USG recently declared bankruptcy. Nine parties are discussing resumption; both financial investors and industrial partners, from within and outside the country. The goal is to sell as many Perry Sport and Aktiesport stores as possible in one deal.
