BHG (Boy) Scholtze started on 21 December 2022 as the new mayor of the municipality of Drimmelen. Meet the new mayor

“Drimmelen municipality is also known as the blue-green municipality, which actually says it all! The southern part of the National Park de Biesbosch is within the city limits, which is undoubtedly a beautiful area of nature and recreation. In addition to all the natural beauty that immediately impressed me, the city has six villages and a number of hamlets. I grew up alone and still live in the country and I serve North Brabant. It was precisely the unique culture of the village of Brabant that really appealed to me and therefore certainly played a role in deciding whether to go to Drimmelen. In addition, the residential areas within each municipality have their own character, which makes municipalities very diverse. All of this made me immediately feel at home and decided to apply for the Drimmelen vacancy.

“I made the transition to local government from the private sector. Unfortunately I left my job in our family business in the real estate sector. This does not mean that I am unknown in the public domain. For ten years I have been active in the politics of the municipality of the former municipality of Haaren, in where eight years as party leader in the municipal council. I also studied public administration and am President of the European Rural Communities Charter, a unique partnership of small rural municipalities in the European Union and the UK.”

“A mayor is basically a link. That’s how I was ‘raised’ during my time on the council and that’s how I want to fill my position as mayor. The Municipality of Drimmelen is made up of different villages with their own character. I can see that not as a problem, but as strength. After all, this diversity together forms the DNA of the municipality of Drimmelen. The municipality must ensure that this individuality is maintained, but at the same time use shared strength to support citizens, businesses and citizens As mayor, I want to contribute to that.

“The profile sketch asks for an open and approachable mayor who stands out among the people. This characteristic suits me very well as a person and I hope the residents of Drimmelen will experience it too. I also think it is important that time flies for the municipal government and sometimes dares to criticize its own functioning : is our way of working still the way the community expects? Does the cycle of city council meetings invite citizens to stay involved? from the community. My hope is that the citizens help me find these answers. I believe that we as a municipality of Drimmelen are doing well, but not never wrong to improve the position of citizens further strengthen if necessary”.
