Bol has a chance to win the prize for European athletes this year | Other Sports

Femke Bol is one of ten contenders for the European Athlete of the Year prize. Among the nominees was also Belgian heptathlon star Nafissatou Thiam. Prizes will be awarded on October 22 in the Estonian capital Tallinn.

The 22-year-old Bol won the European Championship in Munich last month in the 400m, 400m goal and with the Dutch relay team in the 4x400m.

Bol also took silver in the 400 meters hurdles at the World Championships in Eugene in July and took the overall Diamond League win with that number. Thiam was the best in heptathlon at the World Cup and European Championships.

Other nominees are Keely Hodgkinson and Laura Muir from England, Mujinga Kambudji from Switzerland, Yaroslava Mahuchikh from Ukraine, Malaika Mihambo from Germany, Antigoni Ntrismpioti from Greece, Sandra Perkovic from Croatia, and Ivana Vuleta from Serbia.

Sifan Hassan was voted the best athlete in Europe last year after his two gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics. Lamont Marcell Jacobs, the Italian Olympic champion in the 100 meters, is the most attractive name among this year’s male competitors.

For the Talent of the Year title, Niels Laros and Gabriel Emmanuel, two Dutchmen were among the ten men nominated. Laros became the European champion under eighteen in the 1,500 and 3,000 metres. Emmanuel’s Decathlon became the world’s under-twenty champion.
