Racist scandal in England. A former athletic director has been banned from the federation for three years (UK Athletics) for stating during a Sporting Equals Leadership event that “black people run a lot because they have to escape from their robbery».
An investigation by the UK Athletics Disciplinary Panel found that at an event held in November 2022, when asked about decreased participation among black athletes, Julian Starky he replied with an “irresistible” comment.
“Usually when athletes start to get to more specific events, most black athletes tend to move towards sprinting and hurdles… black they are great for running for they must stay away from their theft,” said Starkey.
Mental health
According to ‘The Sun’, the 62-year-old admits to making offensive comments, but claims he is dealing with them mental health problems when he made it. The Federation issued a statement stating that regardless of Starkey’s mental health, what he said was “absolutely unacceptable”.
Starkey resigned from his post in December and was suspended by British Athletics for three years. Now you have to complete a diversity training and respect if you want to reapply membership.
