“It’s difficult to say exactly how many people will be traveling, but we estimate a potential one million people,” TfL boss Andy Byford told British news agency PA.
‘Very busy time’
Chief Peter Hendy of UK rail manager Network Rail warned of very busy trains. “This is the largest public transport commitment since the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics. We work closely with all rail operators.”
Around 250 additional trains will be deployed tomorrow, including several night trains. All planned work across the UK requiring road closures has been suspended to reduce the risk of traffic jams.
US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill have arrived in the UK. The presidential government plane landed at London Stansted airport last night, journalists traveling on the plane reported.
Say goodbye to the coffin
The Biden family will head to Westminster Hall today to say goodbye to Elizabeth’s coffin and then attend a reception at Buckingham Palace. According to the White House, Biden will travel back to the United States tomorrow and speak before the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.
Biden will also meet the new British Prime Minister Liz Truss in New York on Wednesday. This meeting was previously scheduled for Sunday at Truss’ official residence on Downing Street in London, but has been postponed for unknown reasons.
