BelOrta: 102 farmers in the Netherlands; €14,000 GMO in the company

BelOrta has 102 Dutch farmers in its membership base. On average, the European GMO subsidy expenditure is €14,000 per company.

This can be seen in the Sustainability Annual Report 2022. BelOrta provides insight into its sustainability activities. The distance from the farmer to the auction site must remain within 200 kilometers. Dutch farmers also adhere to this. 53 farmers from Brabant are members of the BelOrta auction organization. Zeeland has 27 members and Limburg 18. With some members from Utrecht and Gelderland, the total number is 102 Dutch farmers.

1.4 investments per company

The European subsidy from GMO (now SIG&F) also helps BelOrta and farmers to take sustainable steps. In 2022, an average of €14,000 was spent in this way per cultivation company. On average, among other things, 1.4 investments were made per company in the area of ​​sustainability.

BelOrta also mentioned examples of such purchases or investments, such as tools to combat fungal diseases in strawberries. Environmentally friendly devices to protect gardens from night frosts and low-pressure tires to avoid damaging the soil structure during field operations are also examples of GMO investments in 2022.

United Nations Recognition

BelOrta brings CO2emissions down from 6,579 tonnes of CO2 to 3,959 tonnes of CO in 20202 in 2022. This makes the auction organization get the UN recognition of SDG Champion. To keep global warming below 2 degrees by the end of this century, the UN formulated 17 goals, namely the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
